Citizens of the world!

It upsets me that I should speak to the people of all over the world about the sad and at the same time frightening threat such as drug addiction, but with all my heart I hope that my words will help some vulnerable people to avoid confrontation with this horror.

There is no other world where we could move out, but each of us can contribute to the one we have by all the possible ways that are available, whether by medical activities, political or writing.

One of the social ills that make the world imperfect and in need of change, is drug addiction. Young people try drugs, seeing them as a way to freedom, but the "dependency" and "freedom" – are incompatible concepts. Freedom can only be found within yourself.

Young people need to learn how to say “no”, this is what I have learned only in my forties. Wisdom comes to a person when he gets old, when it is too late, and the person is naive if he thinks that this wisdom can be passed to younger generations. But even young and romantic person has the ability to take responsibility for their actions and understand the consequences.

It is important to understand that life - is not something that you have lived, it is what you remember and what you can talk about. Life - is a series of opportunities to survive, and once you come down from the train, it will be impossible to catch up with it again.

I hope none of you will ever enter into this hopeless darkness, and that you can tell a lot about the life you have lived!

Mr. Marquez! You should write a book exposing drug abuse in the world!

We sit in front of our computers at home while drug dealers corrupt our children! We should all get together and fight! Fight with the drug addiction, with global drug trafficking, with the huckster neighbor!

I admire your wisdom, your experience, your talent. There are not so many classics left and this makes your work even more valuable. Thank you for who you are, thank you for being involved in the rescue of mankind! I'm sure that the great men like you will save the world!

How can you learn to say "no" in a society that always says "yes" to corruption? Are there any recipes? I am afraid not. And there will not be any until there will be a total deficit of everything on the earth, only then people will be forced to give up luxuries. And this time will come soon!

What do you think about the position of Mr. Chavez regarding the government structure and drug policy in particular? Don't you think that these things are populist to the great extend? As a wise man and Nobel Prize winner you can certainly suggest what to do in this or that situation.

All of your colleagues on this site have only demagoguery and useless appeals in their speeches. Where are the concrete ways of solving the problems, where is the attempt to consolidate and hit the drug addiction problem as a united front? I've got an impression that some of them just merely talking about it, while others are haggling quietly.

I can not understand what is the secret for the writers' success? It seem that a lot of writers write about similar subjects, but in fact some of them become a legend, but others are barely able to sell their book, and they are immediately forgotten. Will people and scientists ever find the key to popularity?

I would like to speak on the topic of drugs and on the literary subject. Do you think that young people will ever return to the classics, with its "eternal values"? It is clear that in today's dynamic world, anything that does not require voltage and much time is a right thing to do. Obviously, here, is the root of addiction - to relax quickly, forget and move on, perhaps even faster. I think that our existence is cyclical, and the time will come when young people will be pulled to the roots, removing stimulants from their lives.

Mr. Marquez, you are right saying that freedom and dependence have nothing in common, however, why there are no universal means found so far to spread that message to people? I think, psychologists, philosophers, narcologists and writers need to get together and do something in this regard!

Literary critics have noted that the theme of loneliness - is a key topic in your work. However, the addicted person also condemns himself to loneliness from using drugs. So maybe addicts - are actually great prototypes for your characters? Outcasts of the society, lonely, degrading individuals? I think this topic can be well developed in the prose works.

Fiction also can be a drug. In literature there is an illusory world, created by sometimes not healthy imagination of a writer, same things happen to the addicts under the influence of psychoactive drugs. We need to develop a mechanism to substitute one world to another. We must organize some interesting and exciting activities that would distract from the "real" drugs.

The most efficient method of fight against drug abuse is to say them "no" at all levels from government to religion and family!

I've heard that Netherlands is a kind of European drug supermarket. It's easy to get any types of drugs here. Prices are low. The chance to be caught by police is minimal, and it's not hard to take them home. It's sad, there's no stimulus to combat. Do you think it is ethical to allow open trade in one place and to prohibit it in another one.

Dima, it should not be like in Russia, I know your country is large, and there are not much resources over there, but each person has the right to live like a person and not like an animal. And that is the problem of the state - it needs to help its citizens. In In Germany, the state takes care of all its citizens, and so, I believe, should be everywhere, because we are law-abiding citizens who pay taxes, we have the right to live as human beings.

You are a wonderful writer, sorry to say this, but today even the most passionate words will not bring any results, propaganda does not work. Posters, announcements, appeals, public programs, teaching parents, etc. - all of these no longer affect people. Today every person is on his own and if you are strong spiritually, then you will survive. If not, you will basically die, and that's the whole philosophy.

Iliria, are you a little kid? It is time to realize that nobody owes something to someone in this life. If someone does not have his own head on his shoulders, then whose problem is this? Is it the government's problem that parents do not educate their children, and do not teach them what is good and what is bad? And do not impose the responsibility to take care of you on someone else, it is just funny, you live out there in Europe, just like in some vacuum, you don't see the real life, come to Russia, and we will show you the reality.

Such moral statements have no effect on young people, the whole world is filled with debauchery, totalitarianism - is the only way out.

"It is important to understand that life - is not something that you have lived, it is what you remember and what you can talk about. Life - is a series of opportunities to survive, and once you come down from the train, it will be impossible to catch up with it again", I agree with it, but how can we survive, if the government, which is responsible of taking care of its people, feeds our kids with drugs?
