Today, in Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region (XUAR), an extended session on drug situation in the region took place. During the session quite optimistic statistics were given, according to which the number of detected drug-related crimes is steadily growing.
For example, recently more than 1,000 crimes related to drug trafficking were detected, a large quantity of heroin totaling more than 660 pounds, a large number of synthetic drug called "ice", marijuana, and others were detained. In addition, over the past year, 2879 drug addicts were appointed to a compulsory treatment.
"Only with the joint efforts of many departments and services we were able to stop the growth of drug-related crimes in the region - said Zhu Changji, a deputy chairman of the Government. - However, the anti-drug measures will be strengthened. What is more, we are building new centers for compulsory treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts. "
