Hong Kong authorities suggested to introduce a compulsory drug test for pupils of public schools as a part of the anti-drug programme.
The scheme of drug tests is not elaborated yet. However, it is expected that the tests will be carried out only among teenagers suspected of using drugs. Education officials insist on obligatory principle of total anonymity. The tests are planned to be aimed at timely medical assistance and psychological aid to young drug addicts, but not at punishing them.
According to social poll, over 85% parents of public school students and 49% of pupils in Hong Kong support this initiative.
Representatives of Action Committee Against Narcotics of Hong Kong (ACAN) are sure that the least-cost tests will yield immense benefit.
