Last Thursday an intergovernmental bilateral agreement on prevention of synthetic drug production and trade was signed by Mexico and the USA. According to the agreement, the parties pledge to inform each other on everything related this sort of drug substances.
The agreement was signed in Washington by the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Mexican Federal Police. The agreement stipulates close cooperation of the two agencies: the US special services are to detect places where synthetic drugs are produced and convey this information to the relevant bodies of both Mexico and the USA to eliminate those centers.
Those measures were taken after publishing the statistics concerning sharp increase in the amount of underground laboratories in the territory of Mexico. So, for the past 5 years, Mexican authorities destroyed 712 labs specializing on manufacturing synthetic drugs. It is the evidence of the fact that their amount has grown by 1200% in comparison with the previous five years period.
