21.08.2012

Drug police officers arrested a brigade of oilfield workers who used to work at a drilling rig in the Caspian Sea. According to RIA Novosti, they are suspected of smuggling drugs from Holland to sell them in the territory of Astrakhanskaya oblast of Russia.

Oleg Makeev, an officer of the regional department of the Federal Drug Control Service, who took part in the arrest of the suspects, says the specifics of the case is that the detainees used to operate advanced high risk equipment. If they not only sold the drugs, but used them as well, it could lead to terrible ecologic disaster.

“The prime suspect was in charge of helicopter landing onto the drilling rig. The helicopters used to deliver rotational shifts of workers. Another detainee was a serviceman at the rig, while the third one worked at the dockside. There no facts confirming if they used drugs, but it will be clarified during the investigation”, Oleg Makeev said.

By the moment, the investigation has revealed that the suspects used to order plant-based drugs through Internet. They were to be delivered from Holland by mail. Then the drugs were to distribute among the drug users in small consignments through a network of pushers.
