The Burmese road hacked through the jungle about 50 years ago has become a real threat for the health of Chinese citizens. Currently, it’s the major route of drug trafficking into the territory of China from neighbouring Burma.
Recently the Chinese government intensified its struggle against drug transportation along the road. However, its efforts proved to be futile.
Ruili, the administrative region in China, butts into the territory of Burma, like a peninsula. 80% of world opium is of Burmese origin.
The drug situation within the region is a catastrophic one: about 60,000 people use heroin. The AIDS problem is equally sharp due to the lack of syringes and cheap prostitution.
