Not long before the premiere of a documentary From Addiction To Recovery on BBC Three, Russell Brand, a famous American actor spoke to Newsbeat reporters. In his interview, Brand clarified his position towards drugs and the way drug addicts should be treated.
The comedian who had been using drugs for almost 10 years believes that it’s necessary to legalize drugs making them ‘freely available’ through chemists. He thinks. It would be much more efficient than a flat ban, because in such case drug trade will be ‘controlled’ and drug addicts would be registered. According to Brand, it will cause decrease in the crime rate related to drug use.
Brand says the problem is that “the people controlling it don't understand it at all.”
“If you're enjoying drink and drugs, carry on. It's none of my business, but for those who consider it a problem, get off drugs one day at a time”, he said.
"I know if I can live a life free from drugs and alcohol. Anyone can."
