The month of Ramazan became a record one for customs officers and drug police in Algeria. The total weight of contraband hashish they intercepted for this period only in the province of Hassi Messaoud, Algeria, was 299.3 kg.
As Ahmed Addush, Chief customs Inspector of Algeria, he had to resort to the aid of the National Army (ANP) to arrest the criminals.
In spite of the fact that the drug dealers managed to escape during the unique operation carried out 170 km to the east from Hassi Messaoud, the largest oil field in the region, they left all sale weight of drugs at the scene of crime. Drug police officers suppose that the consignment of drugs was brought into the country through western Algeria-Lybia border for further assortment and sending to other countries.
