Mexican public prosecution has pressed charges against four officers of high military rank with supporting criminal groups and drug trade.
Three generals Tomas Ángeles Dauahare, Ricardo Escorsia Vargas and Roberto Dawe Gonzalez, as well as Lieutenant-Colonel Silvio Hernandez Soto have been being grounded since this May.
Investigators believe that the suspects used to support and protect the Beltran Leyva gang. The details of the charges are not published yet.
According to Tomas Ángeles Dauahare's lawyer Alejandro Ortega, the general told his wife shortly after his arrest that he is being accused of taking money from associates of Valdez Villareal, who was allegedly top hit man for Beltran Leyva and who was arrested in 2010. Tomas Ángeles traverses the charge.
The rest officers haven’t made their official statements yet. It’s noteworthy that it’s the first charge pressed against such high ranking officials in Mexico for the past 15 years.
