“For the first quarter of 2012, the number of legally registered drug users in Moscow reached approximately 26.6 thousand people. It’s 2.3% more than last year”, Head of Moscow Department of the Federal Drug Control Service Vyacheslav Davydov said.
Also he noted that the rate of deaths caused by drug poisoning increased twice comparing to 2011. According to him, it can be explained by the fact that drug users switched to cheaper designer drugs.
Besides, law enforcement officers discovered more than 6,000 drug-related crimes, most of them are grave and especially grave crimes. A total of 2.53 thousand people 45 of which are underage are brought to justice for this period.
“Moscow attracts immigrants, and in such a way it has become a city with one of the biggest amounts of drug-related crimes among foreign citizens, ” Vyacheslav Davydov added.
“One in five people charged of drug-related crimes is a foreigner. A total of 297 foreign citizens are charged with drug storage and drug trade for this period”.
