Chief Psychiatrist of the Russian Ministry of Health, Evgenyi Brune states that codeine addiction in Russia will soon come to naught. He stated his opinion at a news conference in Moscow, recalling the fact that three years ago "Tianeptine", the drug used by addicts, was forbidden to be sold without a prescription, later the use of this drug quickly stopped.
" Following this analogy, the codeine addiction will cease to exist very soon," the doctor says.
Silling codeine In its pure form is banned in Russia for many years, but some painkillers and cough medicines containing codeine are available. According to the initiative of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, starting from June 1st, the sale of such drugs without a prescription is prohibited.
"Despite this, some pharmacies keep selling these medicines over-the counter," Evgenyi Brune says.
"As soon as this question ismanaged, we will witness quick disappearance of this type of addiction from practice", he adds.
