A resident of Buryatia has grown 1300 opium poppy bushes at his land plot.

The detained resident of the small town of Kamensk was previously condemned for illegal drug trade. Police found not only the plants, but also all necessary materials for further production of acetylated opium. All found items are evidences of systematic use and production of opium. The investigation of the fact is in progress. According to the press office of the Department of Federal Drug Control Service in the Republic of Buryatia, actions of the suspect are classified as “illegal cultivation of drug - containing crops in extremely large amount”. It is noteworthy that the Mak (Poppy) interagency crime-prevention operation is carried out in Amur River region with the purpose to find out and destroy illegal hemp crops and to stop the channel of drug admission. In 2011, 436 raids were carried out within the framework of the operation.
