A few days ago head of the Russian Federal Drug Control Service, Viktor Ivanov , have met with Wolfgang Goetz, head of the European Monitoring Centre on Drugs . At the final press conference, Mr Ivanov said that at least 1 million people use Afghan heroin in Russia.
"According to our data, 1-1.2 million people from the total number of drug addicts in Russia consume Afghan opiates and about 500 thousand people are dependent on" acetylated opium. " It is a cheaper analog of Afghan heroin, which is produced from poppy straw and is imported into the country disguised as pastry poppy "- said Viktor Ivanov.
Statistics is disappointing. Today, according to official figure, more than 13% (18 million people) of the Russians have used drugs at least once. Another five million people are marijuana fans, and at least 2 million people use synthetic drugs .
"There are about 5 million people who abuse drugs unsystematically, and 3 million of those who abuse regularly ", - summed up the head of the anti-drug agency.
