Questions

  • Doctors try to avoid the term “healed drug addicts”. They prefer to use “inactive drug addicts” when referring to people who quit using drugs. Does that mean there is no way that an individual gets rid of this label in our modern society? Sometimes even treating doctors have drug addicts with a livelong diagnosis. How do you go about teaching the contemporary society to treat former addicts adequately and consider them a full-fledged part of the society?

As I already said drug addicts are sick people and the society should accept them as they are. Drug users should not be discriminated. Many people suffering from different kinds of illnesses live among us and have equal rights to be members of our society, why drug addicts cannot? They are the same people! It should be explained to the public that drug addicts are sick and they need treatment. Unfortunately, there are not enough drug treatment clinics in Japan.

  • What is the role of parental bringing up and in-family relations as preventive measures for drug abuse?

Of cause, family education is the most important factor in shaping the human personality.

  • In the century of the Internet and new communication technologies, what are the methods of informational war against drug abuse? What method is the most effective today; what should the government do in order to reach drug addicts and to conduct preventive measures among healthy population groups?

In fact, drug trade through the Internet has become a serious problem in Japan. I think the problem is that the government cannot control drug distribution in the Internet space. However, it can prevent the threat of drug addiction by means of the Internet technologies. This task is very important for governments of each country. Moreover, I think it is necessary to conduct explanatory work among the population, people should understand that drug addiction is not a crime, but a disease that can be treated only by specialists.
