Questions

  • Doctors tend not to talk about "recovered drug addicts," and prefer the term "inactive addicts" those who dont use drugs right at given moment. In your opinion, is it not possible to get rid of this label? Even in the opinion of drug treatment experts, patients remain forever addicted. How can the modern society be taught to have an adequate attitude toward former drug addicts and consider them as a part of the society?

This problem is general and not only applied to addicts. When we want our kids to do something, we use a rough tone, intimidation or insulting words. So we need to make a former addict understand that doctors say that, because they feel responsible for patients, that is what their professional duty requires. In this regard I suggest to strengthen the role of former drug addicts in the society. Let them consult and support other drug addicts during treatment. In addition, we should strengthen the role of fighters against drug abuse and let them appeal to drug addicts in an attempt to keep them away from drug addiction.

The last note: everybody knows that illegal drug trafficking, especially in our country and the whole Middle East, is often guided by the most influential persons from the government. Therefore I would suggest to create an international tribunal, combating against illicit drug traficking and controlling the entire world. It should have its own special police in cooperation with Interpol, which would be able to arrest, prosecute and judge drug traffickers regardless of their position and rank in society, whether they are ministers or heads of the states.

  • In you opinion how important is parental education and relationships within the family in preventing drug addiction?

The family should tell children about the problem of drug addiction as soon as they become adolesncents, because this age is critical in person’s life. Parents should monitor their childrens’ lives and be sure that they do not feel uncomfortable when viewing photos, videos or television programs that tell about the dangers of drug abuse and its consequences.

  • What should be in the Internet age and growth of online communities informational methods to combat drug addiction? What do you think, what means will be most effective today, and how the state should behave in order to successfully affect the suffering of drug addiction and to conduct prevention among healthy population?

Today in the era of informational transparency, we should create special pages and blogs for activists of fighting against global drug abuse in order to broadcast propaganda for both drug addicts and healthy people. We should also try to achieve partnership with such social networks as "Facebook" and "YouTube". It is necessary to cooperate with mobile companies, they can help with organization of awareness-raising actions in such days as International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. I believe that it is a good idea to dessimenate messages about the problem of drug abuse in all the languages. At least once a month social activists of combat against drug abuse should organize performances with the participation of mass media. Their messages will influence drug addicts and warn other people about the danger.
